Michael Ango is a Partner in the Tax Advisory and Regulatory Services Group at Andersen in Nigeria. He has over 18 years of private and public sector consulting experience.

Michael is a trained lawyer who started out as an Analyst with KPMG Professional Services, where he worked in the Tax Advisory and Regulatory Services team, and rose to the position of Manager.

He thereafter joined the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), as the Special Assistant to the Executive Chairman. He was the technical team lead, and supervised all administrative and technical functions for the office, including but not limited to stakeholder relations, official correspondence, etc.

Afterwards, he joined Guinness Nigeria as Head: Policy & Public Affairs, where he played a strategic role in advising the Management team & Board of Directors on key regulations, policies and legislation. He thereafter joined NIRSAL Plc, as Head of Legal & Stakeholder Relations. In this role, he was responsible for the overall strategic legal direction of the company, as well as (but not limited to) internal and external dispute resolution.

Michael obtained a certification from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Executive Education in Comparative Tax Policy and Administration.

He has headed numerous projects, which more often than not have led to very successful outcomes, some of which include:

  • Drafted the first ever National Tax Policy which harmonised Tax administration in Nigeria
  • Obtained Certificates of Capital Importation in excess of $450 million for the largest telecommunications company in Nigeria
  • Prepared & obtained Presidential approval for over ten tax regulations and orders between 2008 and 2015.
